Our IngredientsOur Tomato Sauce For this reason, Domino's Pizza selected Portugal with its long, hot days, scant rainfall and rich, fertile soil to produce perfectly ripe tomatoes bursting with flavour and natural rich colour. During two months each year, the farmers who supply Domino's Pizza with 3,500 tonnes of vine-ripened tomatoes select the perfect moment to harvest the crop from their fields. And as soon as the tomatoes are ready, they are taken to our nearby production facility and immediately seasoned with a secret blend of herbs, then cooked and tinned ready for transporting to our UK distribution facilities. At Domino's, we are able to maintain the original sweet taste of vine-ripened Portuguese tomatoes by producing sauce which is picked and packed the same day, using the same secret recipe invented by our founder Tom Monaghan 40 years ago. To ensure that just the right amount of tomato sauce is used on our pizzas, Domino's Pizza invented an unusual instrument called The Spoodle, a flatbottomed spooncumladle which dispenses and distributes the exact amount of pizza sauce evenly and without snagging the dough base. Our Mozarella Cheese The concentration of milk solids, combined with just the right amount of salt, guarantees the mild and natural mozzarella taste which complements the distinctive taste of our toppings. The density of fats in mozzarella also helps to ensure that pizza toppings remain where they should on top of the pizza! and creates the elasticity required to give a classic 'pull' associated with the finest pizzas. Our mozzarella cheese is stored in special "Quality Locked" conditions, which guarantees consistency of aroma, taste and texture, as well as providing the right stretch and colour. Our Meats and Vegetables The chicken wing pieces in our Chicken Dunkers are from France, while the dips are made especially in the USA. Our olives and tuna come from Spain while our jalapenos come from the only country worth considering as a supplier their natural habitat Mexico. Our pepperoni comes from Denmark and Domino's Pizza UK customers consumed 195 tonnes of it on our Pepperoni Passion pizza last year. Our pineapple is grown yearlong in the consistently lush climate of Thailand. Sure, it would be easier to source these toppings closer to home and less expensive, but then, our pizzas just wouldn't taste as good. Similarly, we specify that our ham topping must have at least 80% meat content. It therefore regularly contains 20% more meat than the ham toppings used by other pizza companies. We sell a lot of ham 160 tonnes last year in the UK and that's why we make sure we get the product absolutely right. The chicken sourced by Domino's is white breast meat always. We resist the temptation to use reformed offcuts and, for seasoned chicken toppings like tandoori, we don't inject flavour into our meat like many companies. Instead, we gently tumble the chicken in seasoning so that the end result gives a more consistent and authentic taste. Each individual vegetable topping requires individual treatment. For
example, to retain their flavour and appearance, mushrooms need to breathe
and are therefore supplied to our stores in special aerated bags that
maintain their freshness for longer. |
